Re: IMPORTANT: Santa Cruz Dredging Project Public Meeting TOMORROW

The Pima County Regional Flood Control District (RFCD) is planning a sediment removal project on the Santa Cruz River and are hosting a Public Open House TOMORROW, Tuesday, December 4th at 5:30 pm. Most of you should have received Pima County’s letter in your mailbox, for more details.

Here’s the two important items:

1. Recent evaluation of the Santa Cruz River has revealed that excessive sand buildup has increased the risk for flood damage to private property along the banks of the Santa Cruz River.

2. Their preference for where to put this dredged material is to the A Mountain landfill.

The Menlo Park Neighborhood Association, at October’s meeting, affirmed our support for placing the dredged materials on the A Mountain Landfill.

Tomorrow’s Open House is an opportunity for you to learn about RFCD’s plan, and to also voice yours and the neighborhood’s support for their/our preferred plan. This decision also has an impact on what can, or can’t, be developed on the landfill, defining decisions over the next few years.

Please note: this Public Meeting will take place at the Pima County Housing Center, 801 W. Congress St.

Hope to see many of you there!
