Hello all,
A continuing goal of this Association is to be a collector of key information and resources related to our work together, and to continually share them with you! Please take a minute and read through, and as always let us know if there are better ways to do this week to week, month to month.
Upcoming Neighborhood Meeting
Our next Association Meeting will take place on Thursday, February 14th, from 6pm-7:30pm at the Pima County Housing Center at 801 W. Congress. Tentative agenda attached.
At our last meeting….
1. We got to hear from our Tucson Parks and Rec representative share about the Prop 407 benefits to the Menlo Park neighborhood. Click here for an interactive map that shows all the parks and connections around the city that will benefit from the passage of this $225 million bond. Click here to see the specific improvements that will be made between now and 2028 at Menlo Park.
2. We heard from the Menlo Park Clean and Beautiful committee (Gene Einfrank, Andrew Stocker, and Mary Lu Breshears) about their plan to lead a neighborhood effort to clean up Menlo Park mid-March. Watch for further details soon!
3. We reviewed the Menlo Park 2019 Nuts and Bolts document that will help us as a neighborhood measure our impact this year. See attached.
A Mountain Landfill
The Rio Nuevo board held their monthly Board meeting last week, on January 29th, and continued discussion on placing the dredged dirt from the Santa Cruz River on the Rio Nuevo-owned landfill site at the base of “A” Mountain. See below the Rio Nuevo email announcement about their decision; see attached the notes of a Menlo Park neighbor who was able to attend. A full update will be given at the upcoming MPNA meeting.
In other action, the Board, on a split vote, agreed to allow Pima County to stockpile the dirt dredged from the Santa Cruz River on the Rio Nuevo-owned landfill site at the base of “A” Mountain. The Board will discuss uses of the 29 acre site in the future and may consider portions of it as open space as well as retail and parking options.
The Board’s action solves the dirt relocation issue for the moment while the Board considers a full remediation plan and other uses for the property along the river.
Menlo Park Traffic Study
As part of our recent meeting focused on traffic and parking in Menlo Park, Steve from the Ward 1 office shared a few areas of our neighborhood that would undergo traffic counts. Preliminary data and results have come in; see the attached study.
